What we're about
The Kolomoki Archaeological Society was established in 1962. The Kolomoki Society, organized in Early Co. Ga., first met at individual's homes. As the crowd grew, the meeting was moved to Kolomoki Mounds State Park. The Society quickly grew into a South Georgia, South Alabama and Florida society and expanded from one show to several, a year hosted by members in each of the tri-states. OUR PURPOSE
As a non-profit society with no paid officers or members we strive to accomplish the following: To promote friendship and trust among collectors of artifacts produced by prehistoric North American people. To preserve our right to collect, educate and learn from those artifacts. To provide meetings for our members, focused on the display and ethical collector activities for authentic prehistoric artifacts. To offer an avenue for a better understanding of our avocation to professionals, collectors and interested public.
By-Laws
The Kolomoki Society shall have President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Optional positions, Editor, Assistant Editor, and board of directors.
The Kolomoki Society, hereafter referred to as the Society, will not tolerate any illegal activity by members, nor display, buying or selling of any artifact known to be illegally acquired.
Display at Society meetings by members only.
Members violating Society by-laws may be expelled without refund of dues from the Society by a majority vote of officers and board of directors. Society membership shall monitor it's own.
Society officers shall be elected yearly by the membership, The board of directors shall be appointed/accepted by a majority vote of the officers.
Society elections and meetings shall be announced by newsletter.
Special meetings held by Society officers and directors need be called when and where it would be most convenient for the majority; any officer or director can petition the President for a special meeting, The president will make the call.
Two signatures shall be required on all Society checks. Authorized persons to be chosen by the officers and board of directors.
No Society member shall use Society finances or newslettter to promote a personal business interest. Ads may be sold to defray newsletter cost.
Meeting displays must be prehistoric Early American artifacts or something directly related. Fossils and Historic artifacts will be allowed.
Displaying of reproductions or questionable material will not be allowed at Society meetings.
The Society reserves the right to change or modify these by-laws at any time by a majority vote of officers and directors without prior notice to general membership.
